Hey Readers!

Those of you keeping an eye on my facebook page may recall when I posted about a photo shoot I did with Von Wong Photography and Flipside Studios last year. I’m happy to say that the final product has finally been released! It was a lot of work on everyone’s part, especially from Ben Wong who organized the equipment, gathered people and put time into editing the final pictures. Here’s the result: (more…)

A loud, pulsing screech forces you to open your eyes. You turn slowly to see red-lit numbers flashing, the loud sound continuing to blaze into your ears. Your arm feels heavy as you reach over and press the button on top of the clock. You breathe deeply at the relief of silence.

7 am, Monday. It’s time to start the day. It’s time to start the week. You get up out of bed, brush your teeth, eat breakfast and rush out to work hoping that the traffic isn’t as bad as it was last week.

HEY EVERYONE!!!

I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus the last few months. Finishing the last bit of exams for school and just overall being really busy with… stuff. Lots of stuff (you can see some photos of the stuff I’ve been doing at the Flickr link to the right). Overall, the last few months have been crazy!! I got to meet a lot of amazing people and learned quite a bit with regards to movement, rehab, strength and conditioning, and just overall health and wellness. Perhaps if I get a chance I may share some of that knowledge on my blog.

For now, I just have some videos below from my training today.  I had a friend of mine (I’m jumping with him in the second clip) pushing me to do some jumps I haven’t done before/in a while. Proof that training in groups has its benefits.

All the best to those reading and keep checking back for more posts!! Click To See The Vids

Something tells me he may be a cyborg... or just incredibly talented.

This guy is crazy. One of the many I look up to when it comes to original acrobatics. I’m really not sure if this guy is human or not. Check ahead to see the full showreel. Make sure you’re sitting down for it, cuz you might get tired from hitting that replay button so often.

Me and the friends I stayed with for the trip

I’m a few weeks late on this one, but better late than never. Recently had my first trip (I know… yes, I know….) to Montreal. The last few years since I’ve started training in parkour I’ve seen the amazing stuff our neighbours were able to do with regards to movement. I wanted to see how and where they train. I finally got a taste of it, and I’m happy to say I was not disappointed. I’m looking forward to the next opportunity to go back. Perhaps next time instead of parkour I’ll check to see how the bboy scene is like.

MetaFlex! with that post race swag stance. Yeah, I did it.

After posting my warrior dash workout last week, I thought I was prepared for a good challenge. Oh, how the contrary is quick to make itself known. This race took a lot out of me. It wasn’t so much the obstacles that got to me (I mean I do parkour… I don’t mean to come off as the bragging type, but its something I train in pretty regularly. A 6 foot wall is nothing to climb over). It was the run itself that I was worried about. In anticipation of that, I ran 5km as often as I could. Not very often, because I’m not the running type. About once a week for a month and a half was enough to get me prepped to at least be able to finish the required distance.

Warrior Dash 2011. Image from "Warrior Dash" Trailer 2011

This Saturday (July 9, 2011) should be pretty interesting. I found out about a race called the Warrior Dash last year, but to my disappointment found out there weren’t any races happening anywhere near the GTA. Early this year I discovered that they had added an Ontario race in Barrie, and I signed up right away. What better way to make use of my skills as a traceur? I’ll be climbing, crawling, jumping… all against time. The only catch is that I’m not used to running the 5km. Obstacles should be easy (at least I hope so) but 5km is a bit of a stretch from what I’m used to. I put together this workout as a way to simulate race as closely as I could. Tried it back in February and found it pretty tough, but then exams came around and made it tough for me to keep up with my training. I’ve been running 5km as often as I could (maybe once a week) for the last month but still have yet to try this again… maybe sometime after the race.

Ido With The Trainees At The Monkey Vault

You might remember the post I made a few months back that mentioned Ido Portal and his great control in movement. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity take one of his locomotion workshops a few days ago. Without going too much into the details in the workshop, I can say that I left with a positive change in my point of view in training (both in bboying and parkour). He encouraged a sense of self-discovery and creativity while giving a base for us to work from. He has a tonne of videos online, but to experience it first-hand and to get immediate feedback from him was worth the time. Looking forward to when he next returns to Toronto.

Also had the opportunity to meet a few cool people. One of the benefits of going for workshops like this 😉

Got bored and felt like going to a few spots today just to get a new point of view of the city. Also went to Niagara Falls a few weeks ago to help with an athletic event. I took a few pics from the surroundings there as well. I might decide to post a few of those later on my flickr account (see photos on the right). Enjoy these for the time being.
