It’s too often that I come across someone asking the above question. Women will address concerns of getting too bulky, but the great need at being toned and defined. Others will just love running so much that the thought alone of doing anything else is a waste of time that would be better spent… running. “My legs will be strong enough from running!” They often chime, but what about the rest of their body? Even at that, is all that running really enough to build true strength in the legs? A study recently done by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and reported briefly by Human Kinetics shows that individuals that engage in modern dance will show an overall healthier distribution of body fat. While looking at a very confined group and looking at a few specific details, the study still serves as a good example of the importance of engaging in activity as a part of maintaining a healthy body and lifestyle. If it’s something you enjoy it makes it all the more better to take part in.

And while on the topic of dance, take a look at Paranoid Android of Knuckleheads Cali. I found this to be an interesting interview, not only because of his unique style in dancing but in regards to his approach with bboying. “What we’re doing now is a professional sport and needs to be approached as so.” Well said, and also very true. Ido With The Trainees At The Monkey Vault

You might remember the post I made a few months back that mentioned Ido Portal and his great control in movement. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity take one of his locomotion workshops a few days ago. Without going too much into the details in the workshop, I can say that I left with a positive change in my point of view in training (both in bboying and parkour). He encouraged a sense of self-discovery and creativity while giving a base for us to work from. He has a tonne of videos online, but to experience it first-hand and to get immediate feedback from him was worth the time. Looking forward to when he next returns to Toronto.

Also had the opportunity to meet a few cool people. One of the benefits of going for workshops like this 😉

Got bored and felt like going to a few spots today just to get a new point of view of the city. Also went to Niagara Falls a few weeks ago to help with an athletic event. I took a few pics from the surroundings there as well. I might decide to post a few of those later on my flickr account (see photos on the right). Enjoy these for the time being.
